Global Medallion
Florida International University | 2021 - 2024 |
Despite growing up with Latino parents, Miami is still a bubble. This program provided an opportunity to grow and understand other cultures, allowing intersectionality to flow in. In a world, the issues relate to how we think as a society and what we are used to seeing. With Global Medallion, I was able to understand the complex issues the world faces and how interacting with other cultures helps work together for the better.
As I said before, I am a child of Latino immigrants. Growing up in the United States, I was aware the way things are seen is not always the same. As I got into FIU, I developed more awareness of issues happening outside of Latin America and the United States, even connecting issues with what is happening at home. As I continue to grow as a person, I hope to advocate more for the issues happening around the world as it has an impact for everybody, not just you.
FIU has an international community within a diverse environment, something I have appreciated throughout my time at the university. With my experience moving abroad to listening to seminars regarding international and local issues, being a part of Global Medallion has shaped me to strive for curiosity. To learn more about the world and to advocate for making it better. There is so much to think and yet once I leave FIU, I will continue to be engaged and learn more about the world and what it means to be a "global citizen", per say.
